Standard Visitor Visa

You can visit the UK with a Standard Visitor Visa for tourism, business, study (courses up to 6 months) and other permitted activities. 

Please note that with this visa you cannot change to another type of visa from within the UK,  it cannot be extended, you are not permitted to work, marry or register a civil partnership in the UK. 

Depending on your nationality, you may have to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa before you travel to the UK.

With this visa you can usually stay in the UK for up to 6 months.

To get this visa granted, you must be able to show that:

• You will leave the UK at the end of your visit
• You will be able to support yourself and your dependents during your trip.
• You will be able to pay for your return or onward journey.
• You will not live in the UK for extended periods through frequent or successive visits, or make the UK your main home.
